Will those joints last the test of time?
The better the conformation of the horse and the better the fitness level the lower the risk
to joints. Poor conformation will create compensations throughout the body. Knowing
this the rider must be balanced as well so you do not create differences to the horses’
body posture while it compensates for carrying you. When purchasing ex race horses it is
interesting to note if the horse was raced and trained in the country or city race courses as
the camber of the track will have varied the amount of compensation the horse’s body has
gone through in order to adjust to track surface camber.

mucosal qualities as well. Horses who may have suspect stomach ulcers can
greatly benefit from a banana or two ten minutes or so before each feed.

Warming down correctly
Cooling down would make more sense being called warming down. It is vital to keep your
horse moving at a slower pace and looser frame after any exercise session.

Warming up for the task (all year round)
Keeping warm in front of a fire, putting extra rugs on those equine partners and dreaming
of the warmer weather, are all par for the cause in winter.
Muscle warm ups are especially important at this stage of the eventing year so that muscle
tears and damage are not inhibiting your horses potential
